Abraham Lincoln's Witness Tree Magnifying Glass
This magnifying glass is made from wood from one of the three great sycamore trees that lined Baltimore Street, two of which still stand today. In addition to witnessing the Battle of Gettysburg the sycamores witnessed Abraham Lincoln march by on his way to the dedication of the new national cemetery on November 19, 1863.
During the Battle of of Gettysburg in early July, these trees stood in no man's land as Confederate sharpshooters occupied the west side of the street while Union sharshooters occupied the east side.
The wood used to create this magnifying glass is guaranteed to be from the Sycamore Witness Tree that once stood on the east side of the third block of Baltimore Street. The tree was legally harvested, portions of which, were secured by Gettysburg Sentienels.
